Trip to Warsaw : Warsaw Sightseeing

On July, 7, the schedule isn’t so tight anymore. So we could enjoy the city of Warsaw, did some walking and got familiar with the people. The committee has provided us with two city trip to two different places. The first is the Museum and the second is the Old Town.

The Museum is a place where we could understand and learn more about the history of Poland, especially in the time of World War, where Poland was in a great jeopardy. Many people died, building was destroyed, blood everywhere. In the museum we could find anything related to the War such as guns, old radio, the armor, clothes, many videos about Warsaw bombing. Anything. Just name it !

And the second place is the Old Town. It is a part of Warsaw which has 85% destroyed by Alliance Army in the time of World War. But it could be reconstructed because of the paintings, of a great painter at that time. The City was built again based on the picture in the painting. In this town we could find some Polska souvenirs, restaurants, and the Statue of Mermaid. Some old person said that the Statue of Mermaid in Warsaw had siblings in Copenhagen, Denmark.

These two places could be reached only by foot, about 30 minutes. I thought the Polska’s like to walk everywhere but it’s worthy. Along the walk we could enjoy the historical and artistic architecture of the old building, some Chopin Park Chair, the Statue of Copernicus and many more.

Trip to Warsaw : The Culture of Polska

Imagine Cup is not only about competition.  It’s not only about IT thingy. It is about life time experience. Knowing their believe. Learn from the culture. The culture of Polska.

It was the Cultural Day,a whole day to get familiar with Polska culture. On 6 July 2010, all participants went to a remote place, Pultusk. There’s a castle-like hotel that have a lake, and good panoramic view. On that day, we could tried how Polska make their butter, learn some Polska’s dance movements, ate their dumpling, wore their knight costume and pronounced some their difficult words. It was an inspiring day.

Trip to Warsaw : Show The World

We had the presentation. We already tried our best. But, sorry Indonesia, we didn’t make it to semifinals. Disappointed. Who didn’t ?

After having a night of disappointment together with other participants from other countries under the light and heartbeat music (surely, without alcohol and drugs) , we continued the trip. In 5 July, we set up our booth. Today was the Show Case day. It was the day when every team had a chance to show their project to everyone, including the press. And We decorated our booth with poster, roll banner, Indonesian flag,Mosaic board and the statue of Ganesh as the logo of ITB.

Trip to Warsaw : Ganesh Team Presentation

After having great opening ceremony and a little bit sightseeing of Warsaw at night,on 4 July 2010,it was the really big day. In the morning, all of team briefed by the committee, about what would really  going on in the next five days. On that day, all of Software Design Team would present their thought, the ideas behind the problem and the approach they took. It was the time where everyone showed their best hard work for the last six months.

Sixty three participants from any country, was divided into 8 groups according to the room of presentation. The schedule was tight, start at 11 am and finished at 9 pm (poland’s time :D). And my team got to present our solution at 5 pm.

The picture above was the moment before we did the presentation. Hell yeah, my costume was sucks, and not matched the others suite,,,,but it was the idea. Our walkthrough demo is consist of 3 different scenarios. I was the traveller guy (that was the hat and the camera)  , Andru as doctor and Ical as government person. We practice 4 times at that day and we’re pretty confident.

We did the presentation. We did the Q & A, which was very difficult regarding the business opportunity of the system. But, I thought we already did the best. One of the judge commented the well-structured of our presentation. Julius (Indonesian ADE) said our presentation was way much better than before. Our hope flied :p.

Oh,i’d like to say our great thanks for Camila Formela, a MSP from Poland who was warmly guide us during the presentation time. What a nice talk. Hope you could go to Bali soon.

This big event is opened by motivational speech by Mr Jon Parrera, GM of Education Strategy Microsoft and warmly greeted us by the awesome hospitality of Warsaw. Then we should be proud, the Prime Minister of Poland was the person who directly cut the ribbon, to celebrate the opening. And for the music, it was Zako Power, the famous band from Poland that sang about 12 songs with various unique musical instrument and good attraction.

That was just the moment.

Trip To Warsaw : Flying to Poland

Fortunately, this year I have a chance to go to Poland, Warsaw, as a representative of Indonesia, in Worldwide Finals Imagine Cup 2010. It takes up to 25 hours to reach there. I, Andru, Tito, Aloy, Ical (Ganesh Team) and together with the Indonesia’s representatives in all category, flew to Poland on Friday, 2 July and arrived at Warsaw on Saturday , 3 July. It was quite a tiring journey but it’s fun. True story. I had some new friends from the other team. And we had to change the plane twice, in Hongkong and London Heathrow.

I’d had to be careful enough with the meal served in the plane, because sometimes they provided English breakfast or meals (that contain pork). Hopefully, in next 6 days I will have great time in Warsaw and Indonesia could do something here.
